Pyschographic
Psychographics divides people into catergories based on their personality, intrests, values, beliefs and personal lifestyle. It is based on the assumption that the types of products and brands that an individual purchases will reflect on that persons characteritics and their patterns of living.
Demographic
This is the physical differences between people e.g. Gender, Age, Location etc. This is used in the Media Industry to break down society and classify an audience depending on thier jobs or status.
National Readership Survey (NRS) demographic categories
Social Grade | Social Status | Occupation |
A | upper middle class | higher managerial, administrative or professional |
B | middle class | intermediate managerial, administrative or professional |
C1 | lower middle class | supervisory or clerical, junior managerial, administrative or professional |
C2 | skilled working class | skilled manual workers |
D | working class | semi and unskilled manual workers |
E | those at lowest level of subsistence | state pensioners or widows (no other earner), casual or lowest grade workers |
Main Brief
For our Main Brief, we have decided on a psychographic of Mainstreamer's as they are more likely to follow the crowd and watch whatever genre is the most popular at the time. With horror being a very successful and popular genre at the moment, we believe that this will entice the Mainstreamers. We also decided on the demographic classes of B, C, D and E as they can afford to go to the cinema, but cannot afford to do anything too expensive or extravagant in their leisure time.
