Target Audience Research: YouGov Profiles

In order to research into the target audience that my opening should be aimed at I decided to look at the results on YouGov Profiles for media products of a similar genre and style to our film, to see the majority of these films audience and the interests that they have.

The Forest:

The Forest is a 2016 supernatural horror film that was directed by Jason Zada and starring Natalie Dormer. The film follows Sara Price as she searches for her twin sister in the Aokigahara Forest in Japan, a real life popular destination for people to commit suicide.

The film grossed a worldwide total of $38.8 million, and received a rating of 10% on Rotten Tomatoes.






The Woman In Black:

The Woman in Black is a 2012 British-American supernatural period horror film directed by James Watskins and staring Daniel Radcliffe. The film is an adaption of a novel by the same name and follows Arthur Kipps as he uncovers the story of The Woman In Black.

The film made approximately $127 million worldwide and has received a rating of 66% on Rotten Tomatoes.






The Amityville Horror:

The Amityville Horror is a 2005 film directed by Andrew Douglas and starring Ryan Reynolds. It is based on a film and novel by the same name and follows the paranormal experiences of the Lux family.

The film has a worldwide Box Office of $108 million and received a rating of 23% on Rotten Tomatoes.






Blair Witch:

Blair Witch is a 2016 American found-footage supernatural psychological horror film directed by Adam Wingard. The film is a direct sequel to The Blair Witch Project and follows a group of college students who go into the Black Hills Forest in Maryland to uncover the mystery surrounding one of the characters sister.

The film grossed over $45.2 million worldwide and earned a rating of 36% on Rotten Tomatoes.





From this research I have learnt that my audience may be much older than I suspected and that the audience of horror films is a mix of males and females. I have also learned the other types of entertainment and media products that the audience of horror films like.
