Trailer Research
Sinister
From watching the trailer of Sinister, I have found that the narrative is very interesting and relates very similarly to our sub-genre of paranormal horror. From the trailer, I have also found that the film uses a very dark colour scheme with lots of natural and dull colours - something that I want to incorporate into my opening.
Lights Out
The trailer of Lights Out features an independent female lead whose primary focus is on saving her family. I have decided to use this focus and drive in developing my main character in my opening to give her a more developed and detailed backstory that we can incorporate into our opening.
The Awakening
The narrative of The Awakening features a woman investigating the appearance of ghosts and is something I find interesting and intriguing and someone I want to include in my opening, as I believe this style of story is quite successful in the sub-genre of paranormal horror.
Get Out
I really liked how this trailer makes the audience intrigued about the narrative of the film without giving too much of the plot away, I am hoping to use this technique in the opening of my film. In addition to this, I also like how the main character - and the vast majority of the cast - is an ethnic minority in the film, as this is uncommon in horror films due to the stereotype of them being killed off first.
