Mini Brief: Pre-Production Script Writing

Before we started to film our mini brief, we needed to write a script for the sequence. As we wanted our sequence to be a traditional romance, we had two protagonists: a male and a female. We also wanted to have a happy ending with the female saying yes to the proposal. We wanted to make the sequence very emotional, as most romantic films have the main aim of provoking a reaction from the audience by making them cry or laugh.

(Aaron takes out an engagement ring from his pocket and looks at it, then quickly puts it away when he hears the door open)

(Francesca opens and walks through the door)

Francesca: Hi honey, I'm home.

(Aaron stands up)

Aaron: Hey, how was your day?

(Francesca crosses the room to stand next to Aaron)

Francesca: It was awful. I missed the train so I was late to work.

(Aaron hugs her mid-sentence to interrupt her)

Aaron: Oh no! Why don't you just sit down and relax?

(They both walk over to the chairs and sit down)

Aaron: Look, we've been together for a long time now and I know I don't say it enough, but - I love you. And I don't want you to forget that I love you because you're just special to me, you know? And I don't want to lose you.

Francesca: What are you trying to say?

(Aaron smirks, takes out the engagement ring and gets down on one knee.)

Aaron: Will you marry me?

(Francesca puts hands to her face.)

Francesca: *gasps* Of course I will!
